Welcome to Misplaced Microphone
My latest project designed to give the mic back to the local community
Hi there! My name is Lauren and I’m a third-year journalism student from QUT, announcer for 4ZZZ Radio, and Media and Communications Officer from QUT’s Journalism Network.
Here’s some facts about me:
I have a very bad case of the travel bug. I’ve been to multiple different countries across Europe, and my favourite place has GOT to be Grindelwald, Switzerland. It is simply stunning, and a beautiful spot to go paragliding.
I love love LOVE writing and talking on-air. It is one of the most liberating experiences for me. I’m a bit of a chatterbox so it feels great letting my mind run loose in my work.
I’m incredibly passionate about the environment and social justice. One of the main reasons I took up Journalism in the first place was to help create change, and I hope to achieve this a few times in my lifetime.
I have a little dog called Nanook, who is a toy cavoodle. Yes, I will share a photograph of him, and yes, you will swoon over it.

Enough about me, let’s talk about Misplaced Microphone.
I kickstarted this page because after a year of volunteering at 4ZZZ, I have become very disheartened at the fact that the talents and voices of the local community here in Brisbane go largely unnoticed by mainstream media.
It’s such a huge problem that will only cause further disparities across the board, and that’s why alternative news outlets like 4ZZZ are so integral to the voice of the local community.
You can view this very small page as a tiny extension of of these community-focused outlets. A lot of these stories will also go to air on 4ZZZ as I co-host their Brisbane Line program on Saturdays, so keep an eye out. You might catch a familiar voice telling a familiar story.
Through Misplaced Microphone, I aim to amplify the stories, perspectives, or opinions of underrepresented folk that need to be heard loud and clear. It will also provide some fun, light-hearted stories too about artists, musicians, new productions, community involvement etc.
And I hope you enjoy reading them.
